Player and Controls ⤵
This is you, the Joyboarder — a skilled 2D platformer hero who runs, jumps, and shoots with precision. Master your moves to survive the challenges that lie ahead and conquer every level.
Levels and Progression ⤵
The game features five uniquely themed levels. As you start, you begin at level one, and each subsequent level increases in difficulty. Your health and immunity bars carry over from one level to the next, requiring consistent skill and strategy.
Enemies and Combat ⤵
Zombies spawn randomly throughout the map at various points, attacking you by firing bullets when you enter their range. As you advance through the levels, the zombies become stronger with increased health, requiring more hits to defeat.
Collectables and Objectives ⤵
Each level contains a set of collectables scattered randomly across the map. You must collect all of them to progress, with the number of collectables increasing as you move to higher levels. Some collectables require precise parkour skills to reach.
Lava Hazards ⤵
Lava is present in all levels as a constant environmental hazard. Standing on lava causes continuous damage, forcing you to carefully navigate the terrain to avoid losing health.
Level Completion and Restart Mechanics ⤵
To successfully complete a level, you must defeat all zombies and collect all collectables. If you die or fail to complete a level, you must restart from level one. There are no checkpoints, making every decision critical.
Timers and Leaderboards ⤵
From the start of the game, both level timers and an overall challenge timer track your performance. These timers run continuously regardless of winning or losing. Your best times and level progress are recorded for leaderboard rankings.
Winning Conditions and Ranking ⤵
The game is only won by completing all five levels. Leaderboard rankings are based on how far you progress and how quickly you complete the entire game. The faster and further you go, the higher your rank on the leaderboard.
Command Your JoyBoarder
You can play using either the Aetherlink controller (Arduino + NRF-based) or your keyboard.
For the smoothest and most immersive experience, we recommend using the controller.
Whatever you choose, get ready to take full control of your JoyBoarder and enjoy the game!
